Webinar: Physical Activity and Creative Movement Interventions for Children with Autism

In this recorded webinar, Anjana Bhat, PT, Ph.D., discusses her motivation to study the effects of motor interventions for children with ASD and presents some study findings. She also shares the evidence supporting the use of structured physical activity as well as music and movement, dance/creative movement, play, and yoga. Bhat ends with a few examples of basic yoga breaths and poses that can be practiced to reduce stress and organize attention.

 
 
 

Who is Anjana Bhat?

A photo of Anjana Bhat, PT, Ph.D.Anjana Bhat, PT, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Physical Therapy Department at the University of Delaware. Her research focuses on examining the relationship between motor and social communication and cognitive skills of children with ASD. Her lab also examines the behavioral and brain effects of various motor interventions in children with ASD including music and movement, dance/creative movement, play, structured exercise, and yoga. Technologies used for testing include non-invasive, child-friendly tools such as video-recordings, activity monitors, motion recording systems, and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) for neuroimaging.
